Pune chapter of Marathi Vidnyan Parishad (MVP), organizes Poster Exhibition Competition every year during the Ganesh Festival. Poster is an effective resource to express the subject matter to the audience in minimum words along with pictorial and graphical presentation. A poster is a confluence of invention of drawing and color scheme, interactive language, exact and accurate information.
Few years ago, Indians were considered to be slim and obesity was considered to negligible. But the conditions are changing rapidly. Recent studies show that, Indians, especially the urban citizens are at the risk for being overweight or obese.
People suffer from complications like blood pressure, cardiovascular disorders and diabetes arising from obesity. Growing evidences of these complications are observed amongst the school going children. Changes eating habits, excessive junk food consumption, lack of physical activities, inactivity, mental stress, excessive TV watching, negligence towards exercise are some of the prominent causes of obesity among the children.
Marathi Vidnyan Parishad expects that the children can present their observations and conclusions from their surrounding environment through these posters. Western countries have already faced adverse conditions due to growing obesity, it’s now India’s turn. Especially urban population is more prone to this condition. There’s a need to spread awareness about the scientific approach to deal with obesity among the people.
