Melava+, a matrimonial meet for the HIV+ in Pune on August 22nd by Deep Griha Society's Integrated Services for HIV and AIDS (DISHA).
Over 300 HIV+ candidates from across all states of India gathered to find a suitable life partner for them. Interestingly, around 100 parents were also present.
This was the 6th consecutive matrimonial meet organized by Deep Griha Society and they have successfully tied knots of 89 couples since 2010.
Avinash Chakranarayan, team leader, Disha, said, “This is a good example of reducing the stigma in the community. Deep Griha is proud to have made tremendous change in the lives of PLHIV and also in the thinking of the community.”
The costs of travel were reimbursed to the female candidates and food was provided to all candidates. Deep Griha appeals to individuals, trusts, corporate and funding agencies to donate generously to help this initiative.
