A unique Walkathon was organized by Make My Dream Foundation on Sunday, 14th June from 7:00 am to 9.30 am for creating awareness about the problems faced by differently abled persons with growing urbanization.
Around 200 people walked along with the 18 differently abled people in support of the cause. Authorities, differently-abled people and students from various organisations like Make My Dream Foundation, Poona Blind Girls' School, LARC Special Education School, SAAD, Ankur Vidyamandir, Aadhar Karnabadhir School, Sparsh Clinic for special children, Aasha - AFMC School for special Children participated.
The 2,5 km walkathon (rally) was flagged off by the Jayant Bhave, BJP Pune City Vice President, at Major Shahid Tathwade Udyan, Karvenagar and passed through Navsahyadri, Patwardhan Baug, CDSS, Karnatak High School, Alankar Police Chowki back to Tathwade Udyan.
At the end of rally all the special children were felicitated with flowers at the hands of authorities of Make My Dream Foundation. Parents and students expressed their concerns about the problems faced by the differently-abled and also suggested solutions based on their experiences. Need for parent support group, inclusive education, job opportunities, entertainment centre, simplified certification and paper work, medical insurance etc. were the some of the outcomes of the interaction.
Jayant Bhave assured that these issues of the differently abled people will be raised and the Government will bring forward measures to address the issues.
